Horns Opens in Bethlehem

by theelvee_w2oe3m

Horns on 4th Street in Bethlehem opened up yesterday.  They’ve got Counter Culture coffee, homemade tea with herbs, and a fantastic menu.  I don’t like to hype things up a lot, especially too early, but I see this place doing great things.  They’re relatively affordable, use all local ingredients, have great vegetarian options, and their burger…well, their burger is hands down the best I’ve ever had in the Lehigh Valley.  Check out pics from the first day below and the full menu here.  Can’t wait to go back for a review.

Is that sriracha on the table… about time. That burger bun looks gnarly. Can’t wait to go, thanks El Vee for the preview and look forward to the review.

Just had lunch there for the first time. DELICIOUS!!! Fantastic-looking menu, cutie-patootie cooking it up, and relaxing decor. I’ll be back!

And yes, that is Sriracha!

Went on Wednesday night and while everything was good there were a few misses; including a well done burger that was asked for medium rare and sweet potato fries that were burnt and almost inedible. At $12 and $6 respectively those mistakes are not acceptable.

Other then that the pork sandwich was juicy and well seasoned, and the rosemary lemonade was delicious! The atmosphere is casual and appealing

We may give them another chance after the grand opening stress settles down a bit.

@Penn State, not sure…didn’t see anything anywhere indicating they are.

@Allentown, shame about the burger. The one I had was ridiculously juicy and perfectly cooked at medium rare. Hopefully their consistency picks up.

Really is all I have to say. It’s the same old stuff something slightly new comes to the valley and people fall all over it with how great it is. Went there really disappointed. Sustainable and local really when did Kobe get local or the la buss roll yea there not local we have great bakeries in the valley get your rolls local or have how about you bake your own hahaha. Its a shame you put a funky look on a place and slap some ketch words on the menu and people melt. Reasonable is not a 12 dollar burger with no sides that is over done and on the menu it said with melted cheddar that surprisingly was cold and not melted. This place is not reasonable it’s robbery. If my beef was local which I doubt, where is it from. I would love to know why mass packed beef is 12 bucks for 8 oz. Decor is odd for a place that prides themselves on vegetarian friendly with dead animals and meat grinders. Best burger in the valley you need to get your head checked maybe or learn a little something about food before you make statements like that. This place is another burgery company a waist of my money. it’s ok cause this place will boom among dumb hipsters and hurt the culinary scene.

In all fairness to “Tired,” I too am perplexed by the $12 burger and the $11 salad /chicken sandwich. I am by no means averse to ‘paying more to get more,’ so to speak. Maybe it’s the dollar store that occupied that space for years that has clouded my judgment…

In any event, a couple things to point out. The long-awaited restaurant project at the former church just down the road is apparently not a dead deal yet. This will exacerbate an already bad parking situation Horns has to endure (not to mention ANOTHER restaurant to compete with.) This property is also listed for sale on Weichert.com, which is noteworthy since the tenants are described in the listing as “month to month,” seemingly intending on luring a buyer interested in more than just an investment property.

I’m not entirely convinced that this concept will thrive in this location, but it certainly sounds like a nice addition to the “casual upscale” scene, at least for now.

It’s funny I guess if you don’t agree with el vee your crazy. It’s great how a 22 year old that is a new to the culinary game is a expert critic. Maybe if you actually ate at some fine eateries you might have higher standards. It’s sad that you have a picture of a burger on this review that is listen to have melted cheese on the menu but clearly isn’t, but your gonna say I need my head checked haha it’s ok I guess everyones opinion is ok as long as they agree with you. another point that I must bring up is if the chef here is so great as his friends say on this feed might think he might understand the importance of salt. It’s simple salt pulls moister and opens taste buds enhancing the flavor. Salt is unhealthy or bad if used correctly and in moderation. And for the love of god if your not going to use it give me something other then a sea salt grinder so I don’t have to sit there and grind till my food get cold to give it any hint of flavor. And to the guy who this I don’t know what good food is I have eaten all over this country and world I travel and have a taste for the finer things in life. I’m not a coward for disagreeing with a review. I am honest when I eat out if my food is good I sing the praise of the chef if it is bad I tell my server it wasn’t good. If you want to try the best burger within a hundred miles jump in your car and go to pub and kitchen or village whiskey in Philly or shake shack in NYC.

Well, dear “Tired”, this is the 26 year old female chef. I have been working in kitchens since I was 16.

I have had the Shake Shack burger. I have also ate at Le Fett De Sau and a few other well-to-do restaurants. I enjoy your criticisms and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I am sorry you had a bad experience and I welcome you to stop back in so we can try to change your mind about our restaurant.

I would love to chat with you and cook you a meal. I’m not excusing the fact that the cheese was not melted; it is opening week and I cannot be everywere at once (although I do try). I will admit the picture of the unmelted cheese did make my stomich turn a little. I am not perfect–I have much more to learn, and I intend to do so. As for the meat, it comes from a food cooperative out of Lancaster, PA. Thank you for your input and have a great day, you have really been a pleasure.

To all the others thanks for your support and feedback as well. Can’t wait to meet you all, stop in and say hello you dirty hippsters you.

@Tired, try articulating your thoughts a little better and maybe people will respect your opinion more. Trying to read your ranting, gigantic paragraphs of messy who-knows-what leaves me with a headache rather than anything useful.

@Lady, thanks for stopping by, chef.

@Tired Also, if you care to read around the website I have no problem with differing opinions. You just seem to rant on and on about how terrible it is, that I must have my head checked for thinking this is the best burger, and on and on without providing anywhere else I might find something superior. I judge places based on how well they are presented for the Lehigh Valley. Philadelphia and NYC are apples and oranges to this area. A-rate chefs are a dime a dozen in Philly, here they are not. Boasting that you’ve traveled around the world an have an affinity for the finer things in life makes you sounds like a pompous jackass amd for someone who is so well-cultured you don’t come off very elegantly.

Just returned from a trip to the south where I stopped for burgers at five star sites like Dude’s Drive-in and Wright’s Dairy-Rite Drive-in. My burger at Horns was by far the best, and closer to home, too.

@Lady,

i think your place looks beautiful and i can’t wait to taste your food. I am glad that you shared with the ElVee where your beef comes from since you are making it a point to advertise your menu as local, sustainable, and organic. However from simply reading your menu I too am a bit confused about the localness, sustainability and organic aspect of your products, i.e. the baked Brie. Is the Brie also locally sourced? Do you list your local farmers and partners somewhere else on the menu? I would imagine that integrating these to your menu items/names would satisfy the more fastidious foodies as well as strengthen the veracity of your Business concept. It might also generate more business for your partners as we taste their wonderful, local products in your Restaurant.
Just a thought…

Looking forward to visiting soon.

Well thank you to everyone for just being interested in our restaurant.
Well first off Horns has NEVER claimed to be 100% sustainable or 100% organic.
We strive to use local, all natural and the freshest ingredients. We are not a farm to table restaurant. We are new and are always searching to find the most local farms.
But if anyone does any research on sustainable farming, they will find that it is nearly impossible to stay open all year and prices would be so high for any consumer to be able to pay!
So again yes we will ALWAYS strive and we are still in search for local pruveyers
Our goal is to serve the highest quality food.
Please come in and check us out. We do have a board dedicated to the farms we use

I’m looking forward to trying the food at Horns, but it’s already starting to bother me that they apparently don’t know the difference between horns and antlers.
