    Nouveau Weekend

    by theelvee_w2oe3m November 19, 2010

This weekend is the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail‘s Nouveau Weekend where they introduce many of their new releases for the first public consumption.  As usual each winery is doing their own thing and there’s a lot to choose from.  The El Vee’s pick?  Head up to Clover Hill and try out their sparkling pinot noir.  It’s been sold out for over a year and this is the first chance you’ll have to pick some up and it should move pretty quickly so get it while you can.  It’s probably one of the most unique and tasty wines made in any of the LV wine trail spots so get it while the getting is good.  Also being released that day is their Generations Riesling.  Read below to see what else is going on:

Amore will be serving assorted hors d’oeuvres along with tank samples of 2010 Cayuga and Chambourcin.  As an added treat we will feature our latest release – RAPPORT – our own unique version of port wine.

Big Creek is going to feature Mini Maize Muffins with their Nouveau Red. This year our Nouveau will be made with Marquette , a fairly new variety with great potential in our vineyard.

Blue Mountain Vineyards – Sample our 2010 Nouveau, which will be one of the best ever made by Blue Mountain, paired with Glazed Ham.  Witness a professional blacksmith at work! Luke, a Farrier by trade, will be demonstrating his hobby of ornamental metal working with live demonstrations at 1pm on Saturday and Sunday. He will be joined by other artisans displaying and selling their work. Live entertainment on Sunday by LEECHBOY, 2-5pm, admission $5.

Cherry Valley Vineyards will be pairing a Nouveau Blush with a commemorative label and Mary’s “Fab” new creation “Chicken Florentina”.

Clover Hill Vineyards & Winery will be releasing two new  Generations wines: 2010 Generations Riesling and a 2009 Generations Sparkling Pinot Noir. Visit us for this special tasting of these new releases.

Franklin Hill Vineyards will be pairing for the best part of Thanksgiving dinner……DESSERT!  We’ll be releasing our Nouvelle Seyval Blanc and pairing it with pumpkin bread, apple crisp and chocolate.

Galen Glen will feature Silver Medal Riesling tasted with our family’s Thanksgiving favorite, Pennsylvania German Potato Stuffing and Gravy. Locally grown golden yellow potatoes are our secret ingredient!

Pinnacle Ridge – It was the best of times, it was the WURST of times! We’ll be featuring neighbor Dietrich’s Meats’ Bratwurst (veal, pork and parsley), Knockwurst (Garlic Wurst) and German Weiners ( all beef and seasonings.) Home made Cabbage and Noodles (vegetarian) will be the perfect side! Sample these German classics with our Traminette or Vidal Blanc. For red lovers, we’ll be pouring our 2007 Veritas.

Vynecrest will be pairing our 2010 Vintage Nouveau Beaujolais made from the Gamay grape with pulled  roast turkey barbeque sliders. In the Vyneskeller wine bar, Arianne Rox will be playing on Saturday and Rob & Marty on Sunday, 1-4:30. Free Admission.

    by theelvee_w2oe3m October 15, 2010
    October 15, 2010

Like most of the festivals I’ve been hitting this year, it was my first time visiting Allentown’s kickoff for the fall: West End Oktoberfest. Not knowing what to expect, I bundled up on the chilly Saturday afternoon and headed into the city after Easton’s Garlic Festival.

    Easton’s Garlic Festival

    by theelvee_w2oe3m October 12, 2010
    October 12, 2010

These days it seems there’s a festival for everything…apples, beer, wine, peppers, and yes, even garlic. I’m not sure how long the Garlic Festival has been around but I decided to check it out for the first time this year. Though nearly not as extensive or famous as the Gilroy Garlic Festival, the Easton festivities shut down the center of town and a garlicy aroma greets you from blocks away.

    October 7, 2010

Ah yes, Celticfest (or Celtic Classic, whichever you prefer)…the smaller, kilted festival that spans a weekend rather than a week. This year’s festival drew over 250,000 people to Bethlehem’s sacred festival grounds for a weekend of green clothes, beer, music, and throwing big objects.
