    The Farmhouse’s Vernissage

    by theelvee_w2oe3m October 5, 2010

The Farmhouse recently hosted an art opening and preview of their new fall menu.  Not only were there delicious eats being passed around, beer samples, wine samples, and music, but it was all free.  The art is surprisingly affordable considering the size and content, which was created by valley artist Lesta Bertoia.  Stockertown Beverage was on hand sampling Southampton Abbot 12, Lancaster Oktoberfest, and River Horse Hipp-O-Lantern.

Among the food was arancini that contained a perfect risotto and peas, fried with delicious crumbs and topped with truffle oil that delivered a savory, salty outside.  A few different flatbread pizzas were passed out, including one with I believe chorizo, another with pears and both alarmingly tasty.  An almond/butternut squash bisque with a float of sage oil topping the glass was one of the more interesting presentations, ringing in the craving for fall vegetables.  The most out of place dish was a chilled cucumber and melon soup which would be more adapt to a summer setting rather than a fall preview.  And for dessert, the most delicious carrot cake (normally not a fan) ever to grace my lips.  The El Vee will be back to The Farmhouse in the future to do a full review.  For now, enjoy the photos!

    Review: Pepper Festival

    by theelvee_w2oe3m September 21, 2010
    September 21, 2010

This year I got the chance to attend what’s billed as The Largest Chili Pepper Festival. Whether that’s true or not I don’t know, but it was a pretty well-attended event that takes over the small town of Bowers, PA every year. The sides of the road in town are overtaken by thousands of cars and residents hang chili pepper flags outside of their houses. It’s a big deal.

    The Great Allentown Fair

    by theelvee_w2oe3m September 16, 2010
    September 16, 2010

The Allentown Fair is a special sort of place. It’s not Musikfest…there’s no drunks. There’s also generally at least one or two more relevant musical acts there. But it’s got roosters, rabbits, some extremely odd mixes of people, and pumpkins that weigh over 1000lbs.

    September 10, 2010

Philly’s got one, as do a lot of other places across the nation and now the Lehigh Valley finally got into the action. Yes, our very own whiskey festival, complete with not only loads of bourbon, but bourbon cask aged beer as well. I posted about this event before it happened and it didn’t disappoint.
