Weyerbacher Brewing Company in Easton recently brewed up a special beer in collaboration with the Breast Cancer Patient Assistance Fund of Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) to brew a special beer to benefit breast cancer patients.

Althea, Greek for healing, will be a Belgian-style Dubbel brewed with Italian plums and is based on a recipe by Weyerbacher’s prolific homebrewing sales rep (and former Philly Beer Geek winner) Natalie DeChico.  The beer will clock in around 8.5% ABV and will be packaged in 750ml corked and caged bottles.  For every bottle of Althea sold the brewery will donate $1 to the fund which helps women cover the costs of travel, child care, and prosthesis associated with breast cancer treatment.

The beer should be out around October, just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
