Musikfest Picks for Day 2 – Saturday, August 3rd

Day two.  Hopefully everyone’s livers are in good shape, no one still has a headache, and all are alive/not arrested.  Don’t let the rain keep you home, there’s a lot of great acts starting in just a few hours!

South Side

Sweet Leda featuring Ron Holloway – performing from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Musikfest Cafe
This groovy rock band, fronted by Julie Cymek, will provide a nice respite from the rain with some lively tunes.  With four albums (under different monikers) in their repertoire they have a solid catalogue to draw from for their shows.

North Side

Ground Up – performing from 3:30pm to 4pm at Plaza Tropical

This rap group is far different from what Musikfest usually offers.  Their album cover is graced with the presence of tons of blunts in the shape of an American flag.  It’s great to see something like this at Musikfest as it’s a very under-represented genre at the festival.  Their latest EP has great production, beats, and flow.

Daylight – performing from 5:30pm to 6pm at Plaza Tropical
This Doylestown-based rock band has been making a name for themselves over the past year, hopping on tours with O’Brother and The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die.  They released their first full-length LP earlier this year and after 8 years as a band have really found their sound.

Miracles of Modern Science – performing from 8:30pm to 10:30pm at Main Street
This nerdy, ‘space pop’ orchestral group has original material, yes, but that’s not what they’ve gained attention for.  Hundreds of thousands of people have checked out their Youtube videos of the entire band crammed in a small room performing covers of songs like Daft Punk’s summer hit Get Lucky.

The Red Elvises – performing from 9pm to 11pm at Volksplatz
Kick ass rock n’ roll from Siberia.  If you don’t know who these guys are by now you’re obviously a Musikfest rookie.  Just go see them and join in the conga line.
