Jenny’s Kuali Opens Today in Bethlehem

by theelvee_w2oe3m August 15, 2012
August 15, 2012

Jenny’s Kuali, a Malaysian restaurant, has replaced the former Flama Tropical Restaurant at 102 E 4th Street in Bethlehem.  Flama opened last year after taking over Kennedy Fried Chicken.

The resutarant will feature Malaysian and vegetarian dishes and is headed up by Jenny Lim, formerly a chef at the now defunct House of Chen in Allentown.  The menu features traditional items like Poh Piah (spring rolls) and Nasi Goreng (fried rice with meat and curry powder).  The vegetarian portion of the menu includes dishes like eggplant with spicy sauce and Malaysian curry vegetables.  Appetizers range from $1.50 to $5.00 and entrees top out at $11.00. The restaurant is open daily from 11am to 9pm for dine-in or take out.

Would definitely appreciate a review of this place… everything that goes into here seems odd and closes in a few months. But don’t want to be biased before trying!

I have eaten at the House of Chen (only defunct because of the Arena in Allentown) and it’s fabulous. The family is awesome, very personable. I had the spring rolls for a private party and they were gone in no time (100 of them). I am so happy they are in Bethlehem now. It’s Allentown’s lost.

The Donut place that was there a few years back stayed for a fair amount of time…they had these addicting breakfast spring rolls…..and homemade stuff…..but Penn State is right…..the Kennedy Chicken, Flama Tropical…both came and went (which was funny because Flama Tropical has a place north of the river not all that far away).

I hope the new place does well.

I had take away from Jenny’s Kuali today for lunch. The menu does not have descriptions, so I asked a lot of questions… I had the Singapore Rice Noodles (rice noodles, veggies, shrimp, some egg, and very spicy). It was good if you enjoy fried rice flavor. I look forward to trying many of their dishes, but since I don’t really like fried rice I will avoid this dish in the future. The serving size was quite ample, and worth the $8. The service was very fast, and they did a great job explaining things.

I was a long time resident of allentown (have since moved) Jenny at the house of chen always new my name, knew what I liked, and was always happy to see me. She loves what she does and is fantastic at it. I dont think that I ever had a meal that I wasnt thrilled with. Its great to eat at a restraunt owned (and operated) by nice people who serve great food!! I used to call when I worked late and asked for General Tos chicken extra spicy, and they would say “Mr Wentz, long time!!” Ill miss the house of chen but I know I have a new favorite, Its worth seeking it out.
