Round-up of the Brew Works Craft Beer Festival

by theelvee_w2oe3m

Well the weekend came and went in a flash and I got to attend one of the better beer events I’ve ever been to thanks to the kindness of The Brew Lounge to give away one of their tickets.  The Allentown Brew Works Craft Beer Festival was two floors of breweries and in the basement they had all sorts of vendors and loads of free food.  There were a lot of breweries there that I haven’t seen pour at events in the area and some were pouring different beers than usual which was a pleasant surprise.  With the VIP hour and a two session setup it was only really crowded for the first hour or so of the regular session and then it was extremely easy to roam and taste at will.  There was enough room and enough breweries to create a perfect balance once the initial rush was over and people meandered between the three floors.  Bullfrog’s offerings were crazy tasty.  The Brew Works kicked things up a notch with a Belgian Rum Raisin Ale, a twist on their annual Rude Elf’s Reserve release.  Local beer guru Chris Bowen was pouring a very tasty historical extra stout and Harvest Moon Brewery Cafe from Jersey was pouring some very exceptional DIPA and Pumpkin Stout.  Check out the full listing of what was poured along with some pics below.  Props to the Fegleys for an awesome event!

The free food was nice, especially the portabella fries and the spinach/artichoke dumplings, but far, far fewer breweries were represented in the second session, which was a little disappointing. Magic Hat was there, which isn’t on your list here, and also the LV homebrewers, which sort of makes up for the smaller selection, but I could definitely have gone for some Flying Fish Grand Cru Winter Warmer.

Oh, good call on the Magic Hat, I forgot to add that. I wasn’t sure what the homebrewers were pouring all day as they frequently switch out stuff. I know I had a tasty raspberry pear cider they had. Sucks about the 2nd session, I hate when breweries don’t bring enough for everyone but appreciate the effort of them to come to these events.

Speaking of Ciders, I forgot to mention Woodchuck who was pouring the full regular line as well as their barrel-aged winter version and Strongbow.

The same breweries at the 1st session were at the 2nd…no less. I didn’t think many of them ran out…did they??

CT would have to comment on that…I was at the first session so I’m not sure.

Hmm. Apparently I completely missed the Hamilton room where most of the beers were, so I’m just an idiot.

Ouch 🙁
