Centro, a new Italian restaurant, is heading to downtown Allentown. Located at the now-combined 530 and 532 Hamilton Street corner storefront next to the recently announced “grain.” restaurant from the owners of The Bayou. Not much is known yet about the other details of the restaurant, including who will be the operator and head chef, but work is coming along briskly at the renovated location. The restaurant joins a seemingly never-ending announcement chain of downtown restaurants. Already operation are Roar/Hush, The Hamilton, Tony Luke’s, Shula’s Steakhouse, Chickie’s and Pete’s, Dime, Crust, Tim Horton’s, Johnny’s Bagels, and Nosh. Bell Hall, a gourmet burger restaurant, joins Centro and grain. in preparations for a late summer opening. Brett Kemmerer, the director of restaurant development at City Center Lehigh Valley, the developer for many of the new restaurants, did not respond to a request for comment as of publication. We’ll keep you up-to-date with news as it becomes available.

Downtown Allentown is the new North Side Bethlehem.
The difference with Allentown is you go one block in the wrong direction and it’s a total dump, North side of Bethlehem that is not the case.
It was not that way in the beginning in Bethlehem, either. Reclaiming our inner cities is slow process of trickle-out. These islands of rejuvenation begin, raising the value of properties nearby which encourages improvement and turnover in the surrounding areas. Which then raises property values in areas even farther from the original center. Bethlehem is now decades into this process. Allentown has just begun. Give it time, it will happen. And that’s good for the entire Valley.
