    Artsquest Announces Musikfest Venues

    by theelvee_w2oe3m January 27, 2011

This is something I’ve been waiting for….the announcement of venue changes for Musikfest.  I was skeptical about many things: more paid venues, no more fest on Main Street, crappy transportation between SouthSide and North Side, and a few other minor things.  I’m pleased to find out that my concerns were unfounded.

Only two venues are moving to the Steelstacks site and they were both ones that were expected to move:  Americaplatz, which had been near the Bethlehem library and far removed from any of the other sites, and the paid venue at Riverplace.  Main Street will remain, much to the future rejoicing of every teen that goes to Musikfest.  Zoellner and Foy Hall won’t be used anymore and Musikfest will now include the Alehouse Cinemas, Musikfest Cafe, the Town Square, PNC Plaza, and the Levitt Pavilion.

Transportation between the two areas is still slightly up in the air, but that was pretty much the least of my worries.  Musikfest is slightly more divided than it was last year, but based on these announcements I can get behind these changes.  People are very adverse to change in some areas but as events grow and need more room to expand change must come.  Although according to the new page we won’t be seeing Bon Jovi or Elton John any time soon (thankfully), the prices and size of the acts is expected to remain mostly the same.

This is some great news and I look forward to seeing how it all plays out!

    Review: Hookah Turka

    by theelvee_w2oe3m March 29, 2010
    March 29, 2010

There’s a new hookah lounge in town and it goes by the name of Hookah Turka. Supposed to open during Musikfest 2009 and delayed due to city of Bethlehem zoning regulations, the business finally opened its doors the weekend of March 12th with (from what I hear) a great opening weekend featuring a DJ and a belly dancer.
