Brett Hop’solutely Coming

by theelvee_w2oe3m

The Brew Works is working on a one-off funky brett version of its massive triple IPA, Hop’solutely.  The base beer is an 11.5% ABV brew hopped with Cascade, CTZ, Summit, Amarillo, and Chinook hops that won the Beer of the Year from beverage writer Joe Sixpack in 2010.

A beer with brett, short for brettanomyces, is inoculated with a strain of ‘wild’ yeast that gives the beer an added layer of complexity and often imparts what is considered a farmhouse or barnyard flavor to the beer.

This represents some new territory for The Brew Works, as they don’t usually bottle experimental beers and they also don’t usually work with wild yeasts (except in the case of their lambics and sours).  Head brewer at the Brew Works, Beau Baden, said the recipe is the same as the regular Hop’solutely with the exception of the brett used in primary fermentation.  The beer will be released in a few months.
