Earlier this month Batuque, a Brazilian restaurant, opened at 154 Northampton Street in Easton.
Batuque is owned by the DeMattos family, the same team that was, for a time, behind Rios in Nazareth and later Made in Brazil in Allentown, which has since shut down. The new restaurant still features the rodizio aspect of the restaurant, a growing trend in the restaurant industry with chains like Rodizio Grill (who is set to open soon on Lehigh St in Allentown) and Fogo de Chao expanding across the country. Rodizio is an all-you-can eat concept taken from Brazil that features a wide variety of grilled meats usually served on skewers.
The Batuque menu features other items on their menu besides the $24-$27 rodizio option. Appetizers include shrimp, calamari, veggie pastels, and sausage & yucca. Some of the entrees include salmon brazuca (prepared with a mango sauce), shrimp bobo (sauteed shrimp over yucca and coconut milk sauce), tilapia batucada (marinated in cachaca sauce), chicken Madeira, and a variety of steak options.
It appears the restaurant is still working out issues with their liquor license, as each guest is permitted one free glass of wine or patrons can BYOB permitting they have the receipt for their bottle. (There’s a liquor store very close by if you’re in a bind).
