This afternoon at 4:10pm Jeremy Cowan of Shmaltz Brewing Co. will be at Lehigh University for a lecture through the Philip and Muriel Berman Center for Jewish Studies.
Cowan’s speech is titled, “Two Jews Walk into a Bar: Jewish Identity and Brewing Beer.” The visit is co-sponsored by the Jewish Student Life Center (surprise, students bringing in the guy that makes beer to speak.) Cowan’s company contract brews, or buys time, space, and ingredients from another brewery and produces his beers in their facility. His Be’Brew line has become increasingly popular over recent years, marked by his beer’s witty names such as Rejewvenator and Jewbelation. Cowan also launched Coney Island Craft Lagers, a line of beer of which a portion of the profits benefits Coney Island USA, a non-profit corporation.
Even better? There’s word that there may be some beer there. The lecture will take place in Maginnes Hall, Room 102 at 9 West Packer Ave in Bethlehem.
