    Recapping the Celtic Classic 2011

    by theelvee_w2oe3m October 6, 2011

Well another Celtic Classic has come and gone, and luckily the rain didn’t hamper too much this year.  The Celtic Cultural Alliance reported that event though there was torrential rain on Friday, sales were steady throughout the festival.  We’re glad, because a year without beer and haggis is a year we don’t want to live in.  So, how was it?

Well, it was damn great.  There was, of course, the eating of haggis.  For a few bucks I got enough haggis to completely fill me up, with some left over.  Trying to force it upon friends didn’t go over so well.  There was the always-hilarious Seamus Kennedy, the comedic Celtic singer as well as tons of other shows throughout the festival grounds.  I unfortunately didn’t get to catch a show in Bethlehem’s historic ice house, but stopped in to grab some pictures.  I love that building and it’s a shame they don’t use it for more things.

The games were good as always, however it seemed there was less of a crowd watching them this year.  I managed to catch the braemar stone and weight for height competitions.  I sadly had too busy of a weekend and couldn’t make it for the caber toss.  That’s the one where they throw telephone poles around, aka the best thing ever.  The Celtic Classic didn’t seem any bigger or better this year, but maintained a constant flow of good bands, activities, and food that it has in the past.  Only thing I’d love to see is more traditional food and less vendors selling chicken fingers.  Also, a ticketed Flogging Molly or Dropkick Murphys show (hey, you can dream, can’t you?)

    Haggis? Yes, please.

They were selling some fantastic weaponry this year
